BAM! The sound on this CD hit me like a sock full of wet sand round the ear. There’s a huge array of different cool things to listen to on this little 3-track CD; it begins with quite a hardcore influenced tune (“Scream Your Dreams”) with double-speed rhythms, brass lines Link80 would be proud of and screaming vocals somewhere between Goober Patrol and Anti-Flag. The lighter ska breakdowns are splattered with a wonderfully technical little sax riff and there’s even a huge echoey dub section at the end complete with some mind-blowing trombone, sax and trumpet solos. I especially enjoyed the part where the sax goes through the distortion pedal and almost sounds like a electric guitar.

“Monkey See Monkey Do” is next and is a little catchier and poppier, showing some great composition and a bassist whose lines are frantic to say the least. It’s lacking somewhat in the chorus department however, just a few simple gang-shouts over the main brass riff (which, it must be said is pretty genious in its simplicity).

“Far from Here” is back to the ‘high as possible screamy singing’ in the verses and a nice drinking song style in the chorus. And there’s a tonne of instrumental lines that are varied enough in style and texture to keep the interest going.

Cool little CD from a sickeningly talented bunch of musicians. Perhaps I’d have liked some more emphasis on some vocal sections in at least one of the songs to balance out the heavy slant on the brass in the other tracks, but maybe that would be something that could occur on a more substantial release. I can’t wait until they bring out a full length!
